Picking the right lot
So you’ve decided to build a home. The first step in the process is to decide where you want to build.

- Find a lot in an area that you desire and pick a house plan based on the characteristics of the lot.
- Find a house plan that you want and pick a lot that will
accommodate that style of home.
- Are you looking for a walk out basement?
- Do you want a level driveway or the home to sit up high with a view?
- Do you have children and do you need space to accommodate a
play structure or a basketball net?
- Split entry homes work best on lots that slope up from front to back
- End-on splits work well on level lots.
- Lots that slope down from front to back can accommodate a walk
out basement but sometimes the homes have to be built up and that
can mean a steeper driveway.
